Privacy Policy

This policy describes how the Meldwire application handles information on your device. It is written for Microsoft Store listing and for users evaluating trust before purchase.

Summary

• Meldwire runs primarily on your Windows PC.
• Conversation content, attachments, and provider API keys stay under your Windows user profile unless you send them to a provider you configure.
• Meldwire does not operate an activation server and does not require an account with Meldwire to use local workspaces.
• Purchase and trial status are determined by the Microsoft Store on your device.

What Meldwire stores on your PC

Under your Windows user profile (typically %LocalAppData%\Meldwire):

• Workspace conversations and metadata
• App settings (including privacy mode)
• Provider credentials, protected with Windows DPAPI for the current user
• Optional diagnostic information you choose to copy

Local models installed through Ollama are stored in Ollama’s own data locations, not deleted by uninstalling Meldwire.

What leaves your computer

Only when you choose a hosted engine (and your privacy mode allows it):

• Message text and any attached file content included in that turn may be sent to the provider you selected (for example OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, OpenCode, or a custom OpenAI-compatible endpoint).
• Those providers have their own privacy policies and billing. Meldwire does not receive or resell that content.

Local Only mode is designed to block hosted transmissions from Meldwire’s runtime.

Ask Before Frontier asks for confirmation before first hosted sends, when the destination provider/model changes, and when new attachments are included after a prior approval.

What Meldwire does not collect by default

• Prompt or attachment content telemetry to Meldwire
• Silent uploads of your files for advertising or training by Meldwire
• A Meldwire cloud account or cross-device sync (not offered at 1.0)

Licensing and the Microsoft Store

If you install Meldwire from the Microsoft Store, Windows may check license/trial status via Store APIs on your device. That check is not used to upload your prompts, keys, model names, or workspace contents to Meldwire.

Diagnostics

The in-app diagnostics report is generated locally. If you share it with support, review it first — omit anything you do not want to send. The default report is intended to exclude API keys and prompt bodies.

Children

Meldwire is not directed at children under 13. Do not use it to process children’s personal data where restricted by law.

Changes

We may update this policy as the product changes. Material changes will be reflected by updating the effective date and the Store listing privacy URL when applicable.
